MOVING POSTER

Role:

Concept     Design         Animation

Created a looping motion poster for Shinichi Maruyama, mainly inspired by the Light Sculpture series. To further challenge myself, I used Touch Designer for the first time to explore more with particles and integrating type in this piece.

Tools:

Deliverable:

TouchDesigner,  Adobe After Effects

Kinetic Poster Loop

Research & Ideation

Studied real-time particle behaviors, referencing back-to-back to Maruyama's Light Sculpture. Initially wanted to do something more complex of human tracking but given short time frame, was not able to do so.

Problem

As my first time with TouchDesigner, I needed to balance control with aesthetic clarity. How do I recreate the ambiance, the simple yet complex physical work but execute it well digitally?

Design &
Animation Iterations

Constant experimentations not only changing concepts, but also the look of the mock exhibitions. Through this, I was able to know Touch Designer and its unique capabilities

Take Aways

There’s beauty in the unexpected: real‑time tools teach you to design with the system, not against it.

Even if in a short amount of time, would've been best to nail down concept/ choose the artwork first, then experiment from there.
